Valley Memorial Tree Program

The City of Valley memorial tree program was developed to foster and perpetuate the planting of trees at the Joe Roberts Arboretum in memory of a friend or loved one. Individuals may purchase trees at any location however if purchased at Lanoha Nursery, a 15% discount will be given when you mention the Valley Memorial Tree program.

Memorial Tree Guidelines

Type of tree

• There is an extensive list of deciduous trees that are recommended in the City of Valley. If the type you wish to plant is not included on that list, City personnel will work with you to suggest a different type.

Size of trees

• Shade trees must be one and one half inch caliper or larger.
• Ornamental trees must be one inch caliper or larger.
• Evergreen trees must be three to five feet tall.

Planting instructions

• The individual purchasing the memorial tree will work with City personnel to determine the location of the tree.
• The individual may plant the tree under supervision of City personnel or City personnel can plant the tree for you.
• The City will purchase and place the numbered marker and name plaque for the tree.
• The City will mulch and water the tree on a regular basis.
• The City will not be liable if the tree does not survive unless the tree is damaged by City personnel through the normal course of maintenance.
