Building & Zoning

Services

The Building and Zoning department performs a variety of services intended to protect, maintain, and develop an attractive, safe, and healthy environment. Primary functions address property development and land use activities occurring in the City.

Responsibilities

The Building and Zoning department provides direction and leadership in implementing the goals, objectives, and policies of the City as adopted by the City Council.

The department is also responsible for the orderly development of the City and the administration of various land use regulations, including the zoning code, design review ordinances and building inspections.

Code Enforcement

The City of Valley has adopted and is enforcing the following construction codes: 

2012 International Building Code
2012 International Residential Code
2012 International Mechanical Code
2012 International Plumbing Code
2014 National Electric Code
2009 International Energy Conservation Code
2012 International Property Maintenance Code

The purpose of these codes is to establish the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety, and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress, stability, sanitation, adequate light and ventilation, energy conservation, and safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment.
